The Los Coyotes Band of
Cahuilla and Cupeno Indians won approval for an updated municipal services agreement for its long-awaited off-reservation casino in Barstow, California.
The tribe updated the agreement at the request of the Bureau of Indian Affairs, The Desert Dispatch reported. It addresses title and infrastructure issues at the proposed $160 million Barstow Casino and Resort.
The BIA completed the final environmental impact statement for the project more than two years ago. A revised general conformity determination was issued in February but it's not clear when a decision will be made on the casino.
The tribe is pursuing the casino under the two-part determination provisions of the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act. If the BIA approves, the state governor will have
final say.
The casino site is about 118 miles from the reservation.
