Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe invites all to casino job and vendor fair

The Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe of Massachusetts is hosting a casino job and vendor fair on Saturday.

Construction of the First Light Resort and Casino will support 1,000 jobs. The facility itself will put more than 2,600 people to work.

“A development of this magnitude will generate hundreds of millions of dollars in economic activity that will be a boon to tribal citizens, area residents, and businesses across southeastern Massachusetts,” Chairman Cedric Cromwell said in a press release on Monday.

The tribe began demolition work at the casino site in Taunton last month and Cromwell said hiring for construction jobs will begin "soon."

The tribe will start filling the casino jobs this winter in preparation for the opening of the first phase of the facility in the summer of 2017.

“We are working closely with our tribe’s employment office and local union officials. With thousands of jobs being created, there will be an abundance of opportunities for good paying work in the building and operation of First Light Resort & Casino. There will also be a need for vendor services,” Cromwell said. “This job and vendor fair will begin the process of putting the right people in the right place to benefit from a first-class project.”

The fair takes place at the Holiday Inn in Taunton, 700 Myles Standish Blvd, from 11am to 4pm on Saturday.
