San Carlos Apache Tribe finally starts work on temporary casino

The San Carlos Apache Tribe of Arizona finally broke ground this month on a long-planned casino.

The Apache Sky Casino will be located on a 170-acre site near the southwestern edge of the reservation. It will initially be housed in a temporary 15,000 square-foot structure, The Casa Grande Dispatch reported.

The tribe hasn't set a completion date but Lee Randall, the chairman of the board of directors, at the Apache Gold Casino Resort told the paper that the facility will create 325 full-time jobs.

Randall also told the paper that the site was not culturally significant although tribal historian Dale Miles said a massacre occurred nearby on April 30, 1871.
