Enterprise Rancheria plans to move forward with compact talks

The Enterprise Rancheria plans to negotiate a new Class III gaming compact with the state of California after winning a ruling in federal court.

Judge Troy Nunley determined that state acted in "bad faith" by failing to ratify a compact signed by Gov. Jerry Brown (D). The decision appears to be the first of its kind because it holds a legislative body responsible under the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act.

"The tribe is gratified with the ruling and looks forward to proceeding on the path set forth under federal law and in the court's order," Chairwoman Glenda Nelson said in a statement to The Marysville Appeal-Democrat

The tribe's prior compact expired amid controversy over off-reservation gaming. Brown refused to come back to the table after state voters in November 2014 rejected a different compact for another off-reservation casino.
