Nambe Pueblo hopes small casino stands out in a crowded market

New Mexico's newest tribal casino debuted on January 17 in a particularly crowded part of the state.

But Nambe Pueblo isn't too worried about the competition. While Nambe Falls Casino is a lot smaller and offers fewer options than its neighbors, the slot machine facility embraces its modesty.

"It’s more homey," general manager Pam Gallegos told The Santa Fe New Mexican. "And that’s the kind of property I want to create — one of warmth and welcoming.”

The casino is less than a mile south of the Buffalo Thunder Resort, a much-larger facility run by Pojoaque Pueblo. Pojoaque also operates the Cities of Gold just 5 miles away.

Nambe Falls is less than 3 miles from the Camel Rock Casino, owned by Tesuque Pueblo. Santa Clara Pueblo and Ohkay Owingeh also operate casinos along the same highway in the northern part of the state.
