The Picayune Rancheria of the
Chukchansi Indians in California is hosting a big event today with cash awards and prizes to celebrate the reopening of its casino.
The Chukchansi Gold Resort and
Casino officially reopened on New Year's Eve after a 14-month shutdown. Traffic has been steady to the facility ever since, a sign of the facility's importance in the region.
"With them open it brings a lot of jobs, and you know if everybody can get a long and they can stay open it should bring a lot money to the economy," Lynn Jenkins, who owns a car dealership nearby and has noticed an increase in visitors, told Your Central Valley.
The casino closed in October 2014 after rival factions clashed there.
A settlement
with the National Indian Gaming
Commission to resolve numerous violations of the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act cleared the way for the reopening.
