The Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma announced a $100,000 donation to the North Texas Region of the American Red Cross to help people affected by devastating tornadoes.

The money will assist people living in Ellis, Dallas, Collin and Rockwall counties in Texas. The tribe operates three casinos near the border and north of the region that was hit.

"The perseverance of the families and the individuals impacted by the tornadoes in North Texas is admirable," Chief Gary Batton said in a press release. "Choctaw Nation is rooted in a legacy of giving back and we hope that our donation to the American Red Cross will provide additional relief to our neighbors in the impacted communities."

Eleven people were killed in the series of tornadoes that struck the region during the Christmas weekend, The Dallas Morning News reported.
