The Fort Sill Apache Tribe of Oklahoma broke ground on a $27 million casino expansion project.

The Apache Casino Hotel in Lawton will see a 50,000 square-foot event center with seating for up to 1,200 people for concerts, meetings, banquets and other functions. The gaming floor is also being expanded.

"It's one more amenity for our players, one more source of job opportunities for our members and the community members, one more source of entertainment for the people of the city of Lawton," Chairman Jeff Haozous told KSWO.

The entire project is expected to be complete by spring 2017.
