Rancheria of California hasn't begun work on its contested off-reservation casino, a spokesperson said.
Some soil and percolation testing has occurred at the site, The Marysville Appeal-Democrat reported. But actual construction isn't ready to begin.
"There have been discussions going on," spokesperson Charles Altakruse told the paper. "We will be sure to let you and the community know when there is something to report."
The tribe is planning a 105,000 square-foot Class II facility at the 40-acre site. Plans for Class III gaming fell through when lawmakers refused to ratify a compact amid controversy over off-reservation gaming and opposition from tribes with existing casinos.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs placed the land into trust in December 2012. It's located along Forty Mile Road, not far from the Toyota Amphitheatre, a major entertainment venue.
