The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington is planning to build a $13.4 million wastewater treatment system at its casino site, The Columbian reports.
The system will serve the Cowlitz Casino and Entertainment Resort and other buildings on the tribe's new reservation. The Environmental Protection Agency is reviewing the proposal.
“It’s a very advanced plant,” Chairman William Iyall told the paper “We’re confident we’re going to meet all the requirements the EPA has.”
The tribe originally planned to secure service from the city of La Center. But a lawsuit in state court has prevented the city from moving forward with an intergovernmental agreement.
The Bureau of Indian Affairs placed the tribe's 152-acre site in trust in March. The reservation proclamation was published in the Federal Register today.
