The Oneida Nation of New York continues to fight a proposed non-Indian casino at the edge of the tribe's exclusivity zone.
The $425 million Lago Resort & Casino would be located off a major highway in the town of Tyre. The tribe feels directly threatened by the project.
“Their plan specifically targets half of their revenue from existing gaming in the state,” Oneida Nation Representative Ray Halbritter told The Utica Observer-Dispatch. “We are 70 miles away. It seems pretty obvious they are targeting us directly.”
The tribe operates the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona and and the new Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango. Tyre would compete with those facilities as well as three non-Indian racinos in the area.
