Newspaper extends a big welcome to the proposed Catawba Nation casino in North Carolina:
The final decision on a Kings Mountain casino rests with the Feds. Unfortunately, North Carolina officials are doing nothing to boost the chances of this project, which would mean a much-needed major economic boom for our area. The governor and other heavyhitters in state government are against the Catawba project, even though they claim to be committed to economic development. Go figure.
A casino not only would mean jobs directly connected to gambling, but also would create jobs beyond the gaming tables.
Casinos and hotels are interconnected. Someone must manage the front desk, run the restaurants, clean the rooms, maintain the heating and air conditioning, take care of the grounds, provide administrative services that all businesses require.
Visitors coming to the casino will buy gas at local businesses, sample other amenities in the area and shop at local stores.
Businesses throughout the area are sure to benefit from the draw of more people.
