Cherokee Nation to open hotel at $80M casino near Arkansas in fall

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma held a ribbon-cutting ceremony for an $80 million casino near the Arkansas border.

The Cherokee Casino in Roland enjoyed a soft opening in May. The 170,000 square-foot facility replaces an aging building that hadn't been updated since its debut in 1990.

“We are creating hundreds of new jobs with this expansion, and that will positively impact the local economy. The growth means improving the quality of life in this region, not just for Cherokees but for all families throughout the neighboring communities,” Chief Bill John Baker said in a press release.

The facility features 850 gaming machines and enough space to host conferences, events, weddings and trade shows. It also includes a 120-room hotel that is expected to open sometime this fall.

Roland was the site of the tribe's first bingo operation. The city is only a few miles from the Arkansas border.
