County seeks share of revenues from new Oneida Nation casino

A bill introduced in the New York Legislature authorizes Madison County to receive a share of gaming revenues from the Oneida Nation.

The tribe shares 25 percent of slot machine revenues with the state as part of a settlement reached in 2013. Of that amount, 25 percent goes to Oneida County, the host of the Turning Stone Resort Casino in Verona.

Madison now considers itself to be a host community since the tribe opened the Yellow Brick Road Casino in Chittenango last week. So Senate Bill S5670 and Assembly Bill A7844 would direct 25 percent of the state's share to the county.

“All Madison County is looking for is our fair share of revenue," board of supervisors Chairman John M. Becker told The Oneida Dispatch. The board has endorsed the legislation.
