Senate Confirms Nominee for Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission
WASHINGTON, D.C. — Today, U.S. Senator John Barrasso (R-WY), Chairman of the Senate Committee on Indian Affairs (SCIA), praised the Senate’s approval of nominee Jonodev Osceola Chaudhuri, of Arizona, to serve as the Chairman of the National Indian Gaming Commission (NIGC).
“I am pleased to see Mr. Chaudhuri confirmed quickly by the full Senate,” said Chairman Barrasso. “I believe he will be an excellent Chairman who serves with integrity and ensures accountability at the Commission.”
Mr. Chaudhuri was the Acting Chairman and Vice Chairman of the NIGC. The NIGC consists of the Chairman who, along with two other Commissioners, is responsible for regulating the more than 450 Indian gaming facilities, associated with nearly 242 tribes, across 28 states. Mr. Chaudhuri will now serve a three year term as Chairman of the NIGC.
