Eastern Shawnee Tribe welcomes big crowd to reopened casino

The line was out the door as the Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma reopened its casino near the Missouri border on Thursday.

The Bordertown Casino and Arena first opened 31 years ago but closed in 2012 as the tribe focused on the nearby Indigo Sky Casino. Thanks to a makeover with a western and rodeo theme, the original facility is back.

“This is one of the most exciting, but also peaceful days, satisfying days, that I have ever experienced,” Chief Glenda Wallace said at the grand reopening, The Neosho Daily News reported.

The casino will feature 537 gaming machines, a restaurant called CoCo's Chuckwagon and a dance floor/event space called the Lost Creek Saloon There will also be an outdoor arena for bull riding events -- the first event takes place May 23.
