The Senate Indian Affairs
Committee will hold a confirmation hearing tomorrow for Jonodev Chaudhuri
to serve as chairman of the National
Indian Gaming Commission.
Chaudhuri is a member of the Muscogee Nation of
Oklahoma. He serves as vice chair of the NIGC and also as acting chair
because the agency that regulates the $28 billion tribal gaming industry has been without a Senate-confirmed leader since September 2013.
The committee considered Chaudhuri last November but did not take action before the end of the last session of Congress. President Barack Obama re-submitted the
nomination in January, starting the process all over again.
Chaudhuri is the only witness on the agenda. The hearing takes place at 2:30pm in Room 628 of the Senate Dirksen Office Building.
