Some residents of Kings Mountain, North Carolina, are urging the city to rescind its support for the proposed
Catawba Nation casino.
The tribe plans to build a $600
million casino in the city.
Local officials and business leaders support the project but some residents are worried about crime and gambling addiction.
The tribe has submitted a land-into-trust application for the gaming site to the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The land falls with the service zone that was designated by Congress through the Catawba
Indian Tribe of South Carolina Land Claims Settlement Act.
The service area includes land in North Carolina and South Carolina.
