Chumash Tribe awards $112M contract as part of casino project

The Santa Ynez Band of Chumash Indians awarded a $112 million contract to a construction firm as part of its $160 million casino expansion project.

Tutor Perini Building Company will preform the bulk of the work at the Chumash Casino Resort, according to a press release. That includes a hotel tower with 215 rooms, a 20,000 square-foot pool deck, a parking garage, expansion of the existing gaming floor, and additional food and beverage venues.

Construction is slated to begin next month. The project will be finished sometime in 2016.

The tribe finalized an environmental evaluation for the project last week. Local officials claimed the document was inadequate.
