The Santee Sioux Tribe of Nebraska is hoping to turn its modest casino into a destination resort.
The tribe is building an 18-hole golf course and club house for the Ohiya Casino that's due to open next year.
The addition comes on the heels of an enclosed swimming pool and spa at the 61,000 square-foot facility.
“The dreams of my grandfather have come to life,” Chairman Roger Trudell told The Yankton Press & Dakotan . “We are proud that we are doing this. We are making our mark in the area. We have big -city folks here to check out northeast Nebraska.”
The tribe employs 90 people at the casino, up from nine in its earlier days.
An expansion debuted in February 2013.
