Michigan newspaper welcomes proposal from the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community to move the Ojibwa Casino to a waterfront location:
Some have expressed skepticism about the project, including council member Jennifer Misegan and former tribal president Fred Dakota, who shared his concerns in a DMG letter to the editor Thursday.
Despite those concerns, we support the new casino project and urge tribal membership to approve the sale.
A new "destination" casino will not only give a boost to the tribe, but to Baraga County and the four-county Copper Country area.
The jobs created by the construction project will have an impact for the duration of the project and beyond and a larger casino brings with it the potential for continued growth for generations to come.
We feel tribal leaders have shown remarkable planning and organization in this history-making project and we look forward to the tribal membership recognizing those efforts with a positive vote on Saturday.
