Tuesday, July 22, 2014

>
The Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Idaho canceled an upcoming performance by Ted Nugent, saying the rocker's "racist attitudes and views" aren't welcome on the reservation.

Nugent was due to play the Coeur d'Alene Casino Resort Hotel on August 4. But after the Southern Poverty Law Center informed the tribe about his controversial comments and stances, the show was axed.

>
“We know what it’s like to be the target of hateful messages and we would never want perpetuate hate in any way,” Chairman Chief Allen said in a statement.

The tribe was recently the target of a racist message. Someone wrote "White Power" and "Die (expletive) Indians" on a historical marker on the reservation earlier this month.

>
Nugent has frequently worn "headdresses" on stage and has repeatedly claimed solidarity with the first Americans But he has made racist and threatening comments about President Barack Obama and has accused Native activists who are battling racist mascots of focusing on the "wrong things."
