Cherokee Nation announces plans for casino by Kansas border

The Cherokee Nation of Oklahoma continues to expand its gaming empire.

Chief Bill John Baker announced plans for a casino in South Coffeyville, not far from the Kansas border. It will be the tribe's eight gaming facility.

“I’m pleased to stand here today and tell you that the paperwork is done, the business lease has been approved and as soon as next week a casino will go in South Coffeyville," Baker told the Cherokee Nation Council on Monday, The Cherokee Phoenix reported.

The tribe's flagship facility is the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino near Tulsa. The resort is known for drawing big entertainment names and has spurred development in the area.

The tribe is also building a new $78.5 million casino in Roland, not far from the Arkansas border. It was the tribe's first gaming operation.
