The Cowlitz Tribe of Washington
faces a vote this week on its Class III gaming compact.
The tribe has been presenting its compact to state lawmakers. But it will be up to the Washington State Gambling
Commission to determine whether to send the agreement to Gov. Jay Inslee (D) for his signature or to renegotiate.
The compact authorizes up to 3,000 electronic lottery terminals at two gaming
facilities. But since the land-into-trust application for the Cowlitz Casino Resort
remains under litigation, the tribe will be able to lease its machines to others
until a final decision is reached.
“Until the legal issues are decided, this compact will allow the tribe to benefit from leasing revenues,” Chairman Bill Iyall told lawmakers, The Columbia reported.
