The Stockbridge-Munsee Band of
Mohican Indians of Wisconsin officially entered the commercial casino race in New York.
The tribe and its partner, Trading Cove New York, submitted a non-refundable $1 million application fee, The Middletown Times Herald-Record reported. Their $750 million casino would be located in the Catskills, a region about 90 miles north of New York City.
The tribe is also pursuing an off-reservation
casino at the site under the Indian
Gaming Regulatory Act. The Bureau of Indian Affairs published
a final environmental impact statement for the project in January.
The deadline to submit the $1 million fee closes at midnight tonight.
