Authorities in Ohio shut down casino run by 'Notoweega Nation'

Monday, March 24, 2014

Authorities in Ohio shut down an illegal gaming facility that was operated by a group calling itself the Notoweega Nation.

Ben Garbarek, who goes by the name The Great Elk Dancer for His Elk Nation, was running the operation. He accused the state of violating the sovereignty of another nation.

"They have no right to enter our property. This is sovereign property. We are non-reservation Indians. We are operating a sovereign business," Garbarek told NBCi.

The group lacks federal recognition.
