Seneca Nation faces opposition to off-reservation casino bid

Wednesday, March 19, 2014

The Seneca Nation is boycotting a meeting tonight in the town of Henrietta, New York, where the board is likely to vote against a potential off-reservation casino.

The tribe paid $2.7 million to acquire 32 acres in the town. Development details haven't been announced but town leaders appear to have already made up their minds about the project.

"As Supervisor [Jack] Moore and his colleagues indicated at their press conference on March 7, the outcome of tomorrow’s meeting has apparently been predetermined," Kevin Seneca, the chairman of the board of the Seneca Gaming Corporation, said in a press release.

"Only after the board’s intention to support a resolution opposing a casino development was made public were we offered the opportunity to make a public presentation at tomorrow’s meeting with less than two weeks’ notice," Seneca said. "Under the circumstances, we feel there is little benefit to make that presentation at this point in time.”
