Navajo Nation casino puts dent in non-Indian racino revenues

Wednesday, March 12, 2014

A non-Indian racino in New Mexico has taken a huge hit due to its proximity to a Navajo Nation casino.

The Northern Edge Navajo Casino opened in January 2012. It sits just 10 miles from SunRay Park and Casino, which saw a 12.4 percent drop in net win last year, the largest decline of any racino in the state, The Albuquerque Journal reported.

Northern Edge is a Class III facility that offers slot machines and table games. SunRay Park is limited to slot machines.

The tribe is seeking to extend its Class III gaming compact and open more facilities in the state. Other tribes with existing casinos have been fighting the deal.
