Nebraska committee hears bill to put casino issue to voters

The Nebraska General Affairs Committee heard testimony on Monday on a bill that would put casino-style gaming to a vote of the people.

Sen. Russ Karpisek introduced LR416CA last month. The bill amends the state constitution to authorize casinos and to require approval of any proposals by the local community.

If voters approve the amendment, tribes would be able to conduct the same types of gaming. The Winnebago Tribe has already proposed to open a casino at a former racetrack.
