Virginia lawmaker withdraws bill to authorize gaming facility

Friday, February 7, 2014

A lawmaker in Virginia withdrew a bill to authorize a casino in the southeastern part of the state.

Sen. Louise Lucas (D) said she will work to find support for the measure, which cleared one vote earlier this week.

Virginia is just one of 11 states without commercial or tribal casinos, The Washington Post reported.

Legalization of gambling would open the door for any federally recognized tribes in the state.
