The Karuk Tribe of California hopes to break ground on its casino by summer of 2014, The Siskiyou Daily News reported.
Construction will take about a year, Jaclyn Goodwin, the self-governance coordinator for the tribe, told the paper. The first phase calls for a 36,497 square-foot facility with enough space for 1,500 slot machines. The tribe just signed a Class III gaming compact. It must be ratified by the California Legislature before it can be sent to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for review, a process that will likely take a few months. A copy of the compact can be found at gov.ca.gov/news.php?id=18321. Get the Story:
