Mohegan Tribe spent $25M on failed Massachusetts casino plan

Friday, December 6, 2013

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut spent $25 million on its failed commercial casino in Massachusetts, The Springfield Republican reported.

The tribe started pursuing a casino even before full-scale gaming was legalized in the state. The multi-year effort essentially ended when voters in Palmer ejected the $1 billion Mohegan Sun Palmer by 94 votes last month.

In the four months leading up to the election, the tribe spent $485,107, the paper reported. In comparison, casino opponents only spent $17, 518.

The tribe, however, isn't giving up on Massachusetts. The tribe is now part of the Suffolk Downs project in the eastern part of the state.
