There won't be any labor union battles at the $825 million casino opened by the Federated Indians of
Graton Rancheria in California this week.
That's because Chairman Greg Sarris insisted on a union-friendly Graton Resort and
Casino. Union jobs were used during construction and a union is starting a labor drive among employees.
"The union thing was a deal breaker for everyone else," Sarris told The San Francisco Bay Guardian. "But it was my way or the highway on that one."
The casino employs 2,200 people. It's the largest tribal gaming facility in the state.
