Oneida Nation backs Menominee Nation off-reservation casino

Friday, October 18, 2013

The Oneida Nation announced its support for the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino in Wisconsin.

The Oneidas previously opposed the $800 million casino in Kenosha. But the tribe changed its position after meeting with the Menominees.

"They are our closest neighbor,” said Oneida Chairman Edward Delgado, Fox 11 News reported. “They welcomed us here almost 200 years ago when we needed a place to go.”

The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe and the Ho-Chunk Nation remain opposed to the casino. That likely means Gov. Scott Walker (R), who wants all 11 tribes in the state to come to a "consensus," will reject the project.
