Maryland weighs bids for casino not far from Washington DC

Thursday, September 26, 2013

The Maryland Video Lottery Facility Location Commission will be holding three public hearings next month as part of the process for a new gaming facility just outside of Washington, D.C.

Last November, voters authorized an expansion of gaming in the state. A new facility was approved in Prince George's County and three companies are in the running.

A big bid is coming from MGM Resorts International. The company wants to build a $1 billion casino at the National Harbor, a hotel, convention and entertainment venue that's only about a 15-minute drive from the U.S. Capitol.

The two other sites that are in the running are only slightly further south from National Harbor.
