Connecticut's two federally recognized tribes are gearing up for votes on their commercial casino proposals in neighboring Massachusetts.
The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal
Nation plans to build a $1 billion, 980,000-square-foot Foxwoods Massachusetts in the town of Milford.
Voters there will go to the polls on November 19 to accept or reject a host agreement for the casino, a deal that promises $32 million up front and $31 million a year.
The Mohegan Tribe plans to spend $1 billion on the Mohegan Sun Palmer. Voters in the town of Palmer will go to the polls on November 5 to consider the host agreement.
The tribes are not competing against each other because they are seeking licenses in two different regions of the state. But they face rival proposals from non-Indian gaming developers.
