Tribal casinos took in a record $27.9 billion in 2012, the National Indian Gaming Commission reported on Tuesday.
This is the third year in a row that tribal revenues have increased. And all regions of Indian Country experienced growth.
“In 2012, the Indian gaming industry saw its largest gross gaming revenues ever,” NIGC Chairwoman Tracie
Stevens said in a press release. “For those who judge casino spending as an indicator of
increased discretionary spending and economic recovery, 2012 revenues certainly display economic
encouragement.”
The 2012 revenues represented a 2.7 percent growth over 2011. The largest percentage growths were in the Tulsa region (6.6 percent) and the Oklahoma City region (5.8 percent).
However, in both regions, the rate of growth slowed somewhat. The Tulsa region had seen 6.8 percent growth in 2011 while the Oklahoma City region had seen 7.6 percent growth.
