Charges dropped against three in Poarch Creek casino protest

Trespass charges were dropped against three men who took part in a protest at the casino owned by the Poarch Band of Creek Indians in Alabama.

A fourth man, Wayland Gray, still faces charges of disorderly conduct and criminal trespass, The Montgomery Advertiser reported. He is due to go to trial on August 29.

The four were arrested in February for protesting the $246 million expansion of the Wind Creek Wetumpka. The facility is located on Hickory Ground, a historic and sacred burial site.

The Muscogee Nation of Oklahoma, which sent a delegation to Alabama to support the four men, is suing the Poarch Band over the casino project. The Muscogee Creeks claim the Poarch Creeks violated federal law by disturbing remains at Hickory Ground.
