The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut will hold a public meeting June 3 to discuss its proposed commercial casino in eastern Massachusetts.
The tribe and its partners plan to build the Foxwoods Massachusetts Resort in the town of Milford. Local opposition appears to be vocal but residents voted last night to pass over a non-binding resolution against the project. "Today's decision will allow Milford residents to make an informed choice in accordance with the timeline set up by the Massachusetts Gaming Commission," Foxwoods Resort Casino CEO Scott Butera said in a statement that was quoted by news outlets. "We are currently engaged in extensive study of all factors involved in bringing a resort casino to Milford in preparation for a referendum later this year. We welcome feedback from the residents of Milford so that we may proceed collaboratively, build trust and offer a resort that reflects the unique character of the community." As part of the process, the tribe must gain local approval from the host community. Milford is about 35 miles from Boston, the most populous city in Massachusetts. Get the Story:
