Nottawaseppi Huron Band gaming grants go to community

Gaming revenues from the Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi in Michigan are helping the local community.

Under the Class III gaming compact, 2 percent of net winnings from electronic machines at the FireKeepers Casino go to the community. The FireKeepers Local Revenue Sharing Board just awarded $187,875 in grants for local schools and governments.

“The Local Revenue Sharing Board is thrilled to allocate these funds to these deserving organizations, board chair Ken Tsuchiyama said in a press release.

The tribe has shared $58 million with the state and local communities since the casino opened in August 2009. The state receives up to 8 percent of the net win from electronic Class III games.
