Seneca Nation due to open permanent off-reservation casino

Tuesday, May 14, 2013

The Seneca Nation will finally open a permanent off-reservation casino in Buffalo, New York, this summer.

The Seneca Buffalo Creek Casino has been in a temporary building since 2007. Litigation and economic issues slowed progress but the $133 million, 65,000-square-foot permanent facility is almost done.

“Many years have been spent debating these issues,” President Barry Snyder Sr., said in a statement to Buffalo Business First. “We are one step closer to putting this behind us.”

Snyder praised a judge's decision that affirmed the legality of the casino. Opponents, however, are considering an appeal.
