The Coquille Tribe won't drop plans for an off-reservation casino despite opposition in Oregon.
The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe, the Jackson County Commission and Gov. John Kitzhaber (D) have come against the casino. The Medford City Council also has expressed concerns. “We are disappointed they took this tactic, but not surprised,” tribal spokesperson Ray Doering told The Coos Bay World of the opposition. “We don’t agree with it, but we’ll move forward. We’ve done the research and feel it’s the right way to go.” The tribe plans to open a Class II facility on a 2.42-acre site in Medford. A land-into-trust application has been submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. Get the Story:
