Mohegan Tribe earns praise at casino hearing in Pennsylvania

Friday, April 26, 2013

The Mohegan Tribe of Connecticut won praise at a casino license hearing in Pennsylvania on Thursday.

The tribe has operated the Mohegan Sun at Pocono Downs under state law for six years. The Pennsylvania Gaming Control Board holds a renewal hearing every three years but no one spoke in opposition to the facility.

The tribe is in the midst of a $50 million expansion at the casino. The upgrades include a 238-room hotel, a 20,000 square-foot convention center, a bistro, an indoor pool and fitness center and 4,150 square-foot spa.

The tribe is also vying for a casino license in western Massachusetts under the state's gaming law. Mitchell Etess, the chief executive officer of the Mohegan Tribal Gaming Authority, participated in a live chat on MassLive.Com to discuss the proposal.
