The Coquille Tribe defended plans for an off-reservation casino in Oregon.
The tribe wants to open a Class II facility in the city of Medford. The site is about 168 miles from the tribe's Mill Casino, a Class III facility. The proposal has drawn opposition from the Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe, whose Seven Feathers Casino Resort is about 71 miles from Medford. Representatives of both tribes explained their views at a Jackson County public meeting last night. The tribe has submitted a land-into-trust application to the Bureau of Indian Affairs for the 2.42-acre site in Medford. Get the Story:
