Five men await trial in federal court on charges that they ran a casino that was not authorized by the St. Regis Mohawk Tribe of New York.
The Kanienkehaka Longhouse’s Men’s Council operated the Three Feathers Casino, a Class II facility, for a little over a year before it was shut down. The five defendants say they were only trying to improve economic conditions on the reservation. “I am a prisoner of war for bringing economics to my people,” Rarahkwisere, whose English name is Thomas Square, told Aboriginal People's Television Network.
