Texas seen as a potential threat to tribal casinos in Oklahoma

Monday, April 1, 2013

Tribal casino revenues continue to grow in Oklahoma but that could change if Texas enters the business, according to Casino City’s Indian Gaming Industry Report.

Tribal casinos near the state border attract a large number of patrons from Texas, where gambling options are limited. But lawmakers in the Lone Star State are considering an expansion of gaming.

“If casinos were ever allowed in Texas it could be very bad for some Oklahoma tribes," said economist Alan Meister, the author of the report, The Dallas Morning News reported.

Tribal casino revenues in Oklahoma rose 7.7 percent in 2011, the report said.
