The Forest County Potawatomi Tribe is threatening to stop sharing gaming revenues if the Menominee Nation off-reservation casino gets approved.
The Class III gaming compact requires the Forest County Potawatomi Tribe to share a portion of revenues with the state of Wisconsin. The payment comes to between $30 million to $40 million, The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reported. But the revenue sharing will end if a new casino opens within 50 miles. "You never want to say never," Jeffrey Crawford, the tribe's attorney general, told the paper. "But where is the upside?" The Menominee Nation wants to open a casino in Kenosha. That's about 40 miles from the Forest County Potawatomi casino in Milwaukee. The Menominee Nation expects to hear from the Bureau of Indian Affairs soon on its off-reservation casino application.
