Alabama Attorney General Luther Strange filed a lawsuit against the Poarch Band of Creek Indians today, accusing the tribe of operating illegal gaming machines.
The state lacks jurisdiction in Indian Country. But Strange claims the tribe can't operate electronic machines that are illegal off the reservation. “As I have said many times, my office will use every tool at its disposal to stop illegal gambling in Alabama, wherever it is located. This lawsuit against the Poarch Band is one of those tools," Strange said in a press release. The lawsuit, which was filed in state court, seeks the closure of the tribe's three Class II gaming facilities. Get the Story:
