Seneca-Cayuga Tribe resurrects plans for off-reservation casino

Friday, January 4, 2013

The Seneca-Cayuga Tribe of Oklahoma is once again pursuing an off-reservation casino in New York, The Auburn Citizen reports.

The tribe submitted a land-into-trust application for a 229-acre site in Cayuga County. The Bureau of Indian Affairs is in the early stages of processing it, the paper said.

The tribe's previous casino plan was rejected by the Bush administration in January 2008 under a controversial "guidance memo" that effectively barred all off-reservation land acquisitions. The Obama administration rescinded the policy in June 2011.
