Talks continue for state loan in Seneca Nation compact dispute

Tuesday, October 2, 2012

A New York state lawmaker is reporting progress on a loan to make up for withheld Seneca Nation gaming revenues.

Assemblyman John Ceretto (R) asked the state to extend a bridge loan to Niagara Falls. The city has lost out on an estimated $58 million due to a compact dispute with the tribe.

The tribe is withholding the money because it says the state has allowed an expansion of non-Indian gaming in violation of the exclusivity provisions of the Class III gaming compact. A newly named arbitration panel will rule on the matter in the coming months.
